Dr. Lob studies how development and politics come together in the Middle East, and how development is instrumentalized by both state and non-state as a tool for soft coercion. He received his Ph.D. in 2013 from Princeton University, where he wrote his award winning dissertation. He published a book with Cambridge University Press earlier in 2020, titled. Iran's Reconstruction Jihad: Rural Development and Regime Consolidation after 1979. Eric Lob's articles have appeared in the International Journal of Middle East Studies, Iranian Studies, Middle East Critique, The Middle East Journal, and Third World Quarterly, among other publications.
